"So if I put my trust in Jesus, what am I supposed to feel?"

When you first put your trust in Jesus, you may or may not "feel" anything. The thing is, it's not really about what you feel. It's about what...and Who you know.

If you come from a Mormon background, feelings and emotions are an important part of your religious experience. But biblical Christianity is not about feelings, or even "religion" for that matter; it is about truth, and a relationship with the true Jesus.

This is not to say that we do not experience true joy, wonder, and excitement in our relationship with Jesus. Certainly we do!

But it's important to recognize that good feelings--even those really strong, positive ones--are not necessarily connected to truth; they don't always come from God. Therefore faith cannot be about feelings, it MUST be about truth!

The best immediate "evidence" for the reality of what Jesus is doing in you is that you start to see things differently. Things that before didn't make sense, now start to make sense. You will begin to realize that you are changing...not because you're trying to, but because something inside of you is being re-made. Sometimes you notice it suddenly; sometimes you notice it gradually. And in all of us, it's an ongoing process that lasts our entire life on earth.

So please don't get too worked up about how you're supposed to feel. Your first steps of faith will include lots of discovery, a hunger to learn more about God and to study His word, the Bible. It's an exciting process! But it's not about feelings, which are here today and gone tomorrow. After all, you're in this for the long haul, and Jesus is right there with you, through all the joys and sorrows of this life, until the time when He calls you to Himself, where you can enjoy Him for eternity! After all, that's what you were created for.
